What is paytient?

We help people access and afford healthcare.

Most Americans have health insurance today, but increasingly high deductibles mean far too many have to choose between physical and financial health when they get sick or injured.

We partnered with the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry to empower Missourians to access and afford care for themselves and their families. Paytient offers a sponsored, interest-free line of credit that we call a Health Payment Account (HPA) to make it easier to pay out-of-pocket medical and pharmacy costs upfront. After a transaction, members can choose an interest-free payment plan that fits their budget, which can then be repaid via their bank account or HSA account.

Plus, it's included in the Missouri Chamber Benefit Plan at no additional cost to employers or members!

FAQs

Get answers to common (but key) questions about Paytient.

What if a member leaves and owes a balance?

Members repay their balance directly to Paytient using their personal bank account or HSA account. If a member is no longer employed with the sponsoring organization or becomes otherwise ineligible during repayment, they are still responsible for their outstanding balance.

We will work directly with the member, and the employer is never responsible for their members’ balances.

How does Paytient work with HSAs?

Paytient Health Payment Accounts supplement and protect existing HSA funds. We create financial flexibility so members can make the most of their tax-advantaged accounts — by leveraging their HPA to pay for care before they have accrued sufficient HSA balances and to avoid spending down their HSA funds. An HPA also addresses care costs not covered by HSAs.

Where can employees use Paytient?

Paytient Health Payment Accounts can be used for care and prescription expenses at both in-network and out-of-network providers. HPA cards work at most providers that accept Visa as long as the merchant bills to a covered category (medical or pharmacy only).

Rarely, a provider might be owned by another company with a different merchant category that isn’t included in the program. In those cases, employees can reach out to our customer support team for help.

How much does this cost?

The cost of offering Paytient is covered for employers by the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry as part of the Missouri Chamber Benefit Plan.

Meanwhile, members pay back what they spend on their Health Payment Account and not a penny more!

Who is eligible for Paytient?

To qualify for Paytient through the Missouri multiple employer welfare arrangement (MEWA) model, employers must have 2–50 eligible employees enrolled in the Chamber Benefit Plan medical plan offered by the chamber and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, must be domiciled in Missouri, and must be a member of the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry or their local affiliated chamber of commerce.

Is a credit check required?

Paytient is legally required to ask a couple of questions regarding members’ ability to pay during sign up, but this does not involve doing a soft or hard pull on members’ credit.

Can members adjust their payment plans?

Paytient understands circumstances change. Paytient’s support team is happy to adjust member payment plans to better fit their budgets. They can do so by reaching out in the app or by emailing hello@paytient.com for assistance.
